Day 8 Rebecca Bay to Trousers Point 21 March 14

The mob were a bit late up this morning after a long day yesterday.
They had the pleasure of coming on deck and finding where they ended up in the dark last night,I was the only person who had been here before out of 10.
Needless to say they were suitably impressed.
Had breakfast and ferried them all ashore for a walk ,explore  and shoot. It went on for quite a while marred a bit by the fact that quite a lot of the Island has been burnt out.It is very sparse scrub and one cannot help but think it will take a long time to recover.Seems to be the norm now,Giblin and Davey river areas last trip and now here.Makes you wonder-------.

Had morning tea with Rod  and Garth, discussed the things you talk about on a trip like this,Ben came on board for a while and fiddled with their new plotter to show how to get current prediction up.
He got the call to bring the Phantom ashore for some high shots.Boys getting a lot better at flying it now.You should see the battery charging areas on Masterpiece, has to be seen to believed, might post a shot on a slow day,not many of them!
I don't know if they realized but Gary and Gilbert climbed up onto Lookout Point to take Solquest's departure.I recon many people must have spent many hours peering out to sea there. They were very happy with their mornings work.
Retrieved them and set sail for Preservation Island for lunch only six miles away. They anchored in Hamilton Roads named after the Captain of the ill fated Sydney Cove and as history is part of this series they soaked up the wrecks story, you cannot help it here.Did a bit of filming of the Rum Island area before we left,I think we passed over the wreck as there were echoes on my new downvision sounder which matched the photos of the sandbags in the book.

After lunch we headed for Trousers ,stopping off at Long Island  ,Cape Barren ,to have a look around for anchorages for Saturday as a bit of unsettled weather is forecast and not much water there.
As it was high tide we managed to get along side the jetty and as with these type of places it was not long before a few locals turned up,we gleaned a bit of local knowledge out of them as you do,Josh told them a bit of what we were up to,the place will be buzzing when we return .

Solquest stopped to have a fish,Rod found a deep gutter on the sounder,Nick caught a big Flathead but the current beat them and as the crew were ashore to film their arrival with the mountains in the background the fishing session was given away.

We have made a plan we hope will work for the sorties ashore over the next few days, decided to use Trousers Point to anchor at.We expect a Southerly change today and will take Rod around to the North side this morning when the crew have gone ashore for a dive on a wreck somewhere near Emita we think.
We need to have a spot  to put Solquest when the change comes through, not much water there but as the tide predictions are from Big River not far away they should be pretty right.Ben might have to have a wander around to find a track to get the crews back on board tonight. They seem to be up for a bit of adventure so should be ok .
We have quite a strong North wind now but the dinghy we purchased has performed admirably, done some miles on the third tank of fuel should get them ashore reasonably dry.

The Sydney crew were suitably impressed with the waning moon rising over Mount Strzelecki
about 10 last night.Must admit it did look impressive.

Well some stirring going on and had to get up to find out how to spell that mountain's name.
Now only need to find out how to compress the photo for Jerry's  benefit. Maybe the video clip was the culprit.
Crew ashore ready to catch Toby in the van by 8 am.Crews from both boats comes to six takes a bit of time when someone always forgets something.
All ashore Ben off around the point to pull the pot. 8.15.am.
Reported in to Coast Radio Hobart.
Well better get on with the washing up,never done so much in all my life!
