Day 5 Wineglass Bay to St Helens 17 March 14

Solquest left Wineglass about 8 .00 am for St Helens.
We waited for them to get ahead.
Trolled around the Bay then motored up to Sleepy Bay to have a look.
Went out around the Nuggets to Bluestone Bay where Graeme Lovett from Triabunna said be had a Stripey Trumpeter spot. When we arrived there was a fishing boat putting about 20 pots on it!
We had a couple of downers on it but kept drifting into his gear ,looked promising though with plenty of feed on it.
There was a stiff westerly blowing so we worked up the shore, catching up with Solquest about 11am.She was about 2 miles offshore sailing beautifully in a 20 to 25 knot breeze off Bicheno.Gilly go some good shots of her.
We suggested a lunch meeting at Long Point so we steamed ahead. There was a fishing boat there at anchor when we arrived, the wind quite strong blowing along the beach.
We anchored and had some lunch the crew having a snooze while we waited for Solquest.
When they arrived they made the correct decision to keep going.
We left a short time later and Ben put the Tuna lures in.Trolled for a couple of hours up towards St Helens Island.
Anchored There at about 3.30 in 15 meters on rock bottom a bit growley ,heard later from Rod somebody told him there is a patch of sand if you look for it.

Called the St Helens Coast Guard about being led in over the bar at low tide. Was told yesterday not a problem,so we left Wineglass.Today when we called up they were not so sure so they said they would send a boat out to have a look if we wanted.
I said ok but nothing seemed to happen.I called up Garth and we decided to wait until Mondays high tide.Where to go ?
The only place is Binnalong Bay,did not look too good when I had a look as there was still some Eastely swell braking on the beach along with a stiff NW breeze.
We elected to anchor in Skeleton Bay just south of there out of the wind so we have been rolling around there since, not very comfortable.
May be we should have elected to be sure and arrive on a full tide,a lesson learned I feel.

Put the crew onto Solquest in trying conditions in the dinghy at St Helens Island, all getting the hang of it well.Ben made two trips and Garth made two passes to keep her head to wind for a second or two while they transferred their gear.

They filmed sailing on board and they then had a cook up.
Ben got instructions from Josh we were all going over there for dinner, Bring you own plates and cutlery along with veggies ,the only thing was he did not really know when.
Rod came over to us as it was crowded there.
We got the call at about a quarter after nine, the broccoli was a bit ordinary by then but Ross had some Tuna on the BBQ and three or four things like pickled veggies and tuna done in different marinades, very nice. All the time we were rolling about but most people now got their sea legs.
Have to work on the voyage plans a bit better though.
Now 7.15 am Monday crew up having coffee awaiting 9.30 appointment with the bar, can't come soon enough.
Slack missed good photos yesterday.
