Tourist day King Island.

Up at 7,Biggs already done his constitunial ( walked the dog ) in the venacular ,Bill would be missing him We recon.

Cheroz produced his Gourmet breakfast,Juice ,cereal and crumpet with cheese, ham and poached egg on top.Coffee for those who wanted it.
Did a few jobs and got into the RAV4. Cheroz and Perk in the back, the left hand seat slides forward to get in the backseat .Getting out is harder especially when parked up hill.Drove up to the lookout first,it gives an excellent view of the harbour.

Currie harbour from the lookout.

Biggs and I getting instructions on how to take better photos, he with his new tablet and I with my I phone.Biggs seems to be picking it up quickly.

Next we headed north out of town , turned off to case the airport,by all accounts this is a busy place now.Mick said they have done it up since he was here before. The golfers come and go also the fishing charter skipper told us ,for a little more than 600 dollars he flies clients over for breakfast at the bakery and then takes the fishing trip out at about 9 am,returns at 4 and flies them home to Melbourne.A big day we recon.Yesterday the decky was cleaning fish for a couple of hours after they had gone, they take some home and the rest gets sold, they also get a hot lunch!

We had a pleasant day touring about heading for Cape Wickham on the top of the Island ,the lighthouse here is formabadle, some one said it is the tallest in Australia.
We went down most side roads to the coast which varies considerably, some beautiful beaches and some very daunting rocky places with off lying reefs with breaking waves. The old sailing vessels did not stand a chance when the got onto a Lee shore.
Saw a red painted cargo ship anchored in a bay near the top, something going on there.Did look it up on Marin Traffic but forgotten its name.

Next stop after the lighthouse was the new  golf course. It was just after lunch so the golfers were all lined up ready for their afternoon session,we were fascinated to see them coming and going ,some practicing, some off ,some searching around in the sand dunes obviously got a bit too far left.Saw what a differece a buggy made to the speed of play,They tear around in them, some have walking ones and a couple just carried their clubs. For us yachties it certainly was different.Biggs was teased about taking it up.Got all the guff for Banger,Cheroz reckons he will be up here! Even got the instruction of how to play each hole.Had a coffee in the club house,it is an interesting thing in itself, made of Aluminium sections it is prefabbed,it has a few cables to stabilize it,even across the windows if required, the roof seems to be of heavy plastic sheeting with air pressure between the inside and outside layers, there was some wind about but it was as steady as a rock.
Found out there were 80 golfers on the go today,we had 130 last Saturday the girl serving said.
The word is if you have about 25 million you can buy it.The clubhouse is light and airy with large windows and seems to serve it well, there was accomodation away in the dune but we did not go there.

Lined up and ready to go.

Back in the Rav and did the east coast on the way back ,King like Flinders is a lot larger than you imagine when you go there, the amount of farm grasslands is surprising,we really only saw fat cattle ,the diaries must be somewhere else. The side diversions to the coast are about six miles or more.

We elected to do the cheese factory on the way back.Pulled up to fing a notice on the door saying closed for renovation.Biggs enquired and confirmed they were shut but could not see anything going on,found out later this has been for a couple of months, the outlet is moving to town by all accounts.A bit disappointed .

Returned to town and the bakery, all bought a pie for a late lunch,a bit of a mistake as the next stop was for a beer at the King Island Club.I noticed after a while the crew were struggling with their second one.Intergestion had set in,not a good move Cheroz commented. There was one fellow there when we arrived watching the horses on the Telly and having a few bets with the barmaid.

As usual we tried to strike up a conversation with him,as it turned out he was the fellow ,Wayne, who talked to Mick about how to get into the harbour and where to tie up,all good advice. He was not as affable as he was on the phone.A fisherman ,I got a bit out of him on how they catch the crays  up here and what effect the tides might have when we go across to Sandy Cape.
Maybe we were upsetting his betting session so we left and went back to the boat ,Cheroz got out the zinc blocks,I had a short Nana nap.

I sent a text to Jerry and cruise Commodore Dave on our position and intentions,we are berthed beside a large power box, good for shore power but no good for HF radio reception .

We decided to eat on the boat for dinner,Cheroz had some nice steaks and a wallaby sausage from his butcher, most definitely really had looked after us.
Had a small desert after a bottle of red.Coffee for some and into bed about ten.
A very pleasant evening ,the weather had been excellent since we arrived, hardly a cloud in the sky.
