Friday at Currie

Toured around the SE corner of King Island.Around the coast track to the Kelp Factory, saw a fellow loading Kelp of the rocky shore. The racks of seaweed are surprisingly large, about four meters tall.
The information room says they air  dry it for about two weeks before putting it through an oven after  chopping it up a bit.It is then. Made into granules before shipping to Norway I think it said.
Sometimes I think it must be left drying a bit longer as the amount hanging outside seemed huge, there only seemed a couple of people collecting we could see.
Returned to the Bakery for coffee and then checked out the IGA.They have most things in there you could want enemies tables and chairs.
Cheroz negotiated some white wine,he seemed to think we might need it.

 Give us a tune Biggs!

Returned the car a bit early and had lunch on board.Walked around to the boat house on the shore.
An old boathouse done up as a party venue, door wide open and tables set even with wine glasses.A phone number to ring if you want to use it,very comfortable with a Barbie ,sink and all you could want ,all you supply is your food and drink,a donation box for the gas used.We saw it in action one night all lights blazing,it is in a very sheltered spot with a good view of the Harbour.

We were making our way towards the lighthouse and museum which opens at 2 pm,the friends of it open most afternoons.
We gave it a quick going over, they have a lot of history there and if you were into that you could spend hours there, very well presented.
Once we were up on the top of the hill I got a good view of the sea conditions and suggested we should do a runner and head for Hunter Island, there was a NE about 12 knots blowing with about a three meter sea from the south running, the forecast said the wind shifting to an Easterly in the morning when we had planned to leave.
Consulted the crew and they agreed so I said we leave in an hour,Biggs and I took a shortcut down over the bank to get ready for sea,the dinghy had gone flat so we had to pump that up.Mick and Cheroz went around the other way to get some last minute things.

Left at about three fifteen out through the channel,a bit better than when we came in,went well offshore to avoid the Admiralty Rocks and any cray gear set along the shore. Not too bad until we got near the bottom of the Island where things got a bit jumpy for a while. As the forecast said the further we went the lighter the wind got.By the time we closed Hunter Island the conditions were good, arrived at Curvier Bay at a little after seven.
We heard on the sched at six thirty that Mercury,Caia,Quendale Bay and Rosebud were there for an early getaway in the morning to Strahan. The first one left at three thirty in the morning.Mercury came past at seven they were going to have another night on the coast.
Had another good steak dinner,a bit late after our arrival but all happy with the day.
